Cursed weather and Toasta bags

by Phil Long

I woke up this morning but I won’t use that as an excuse to make this post sound like a Blues song, you’ll undoubtably be relieved to read. Specifically, I woke up early this morning – for a Saturday. Up and about around 9 am and it looked like there was a genuine risk of the day being pleasant. The sun was out, even if it was a bit chilly, and I was thinking it might be nice to take my camera along to the canal at Todmorden early-evening to get some pictures as the Sun fell. In the meantime I set about the usual tedious weekend tasks of tidying and washing.
Clothes. Naturally I do wash myself during the week as well as on weekends. On Wednesdays.

Through the day the weather has worsened in direct proportion to how empty my washing basket became. Thankfully I didn’t have so much to do as to end up with storms and tornados. Which is a shame as that might make a good photo’ (as a search on Flickr for ‘lightning’ reveals). In any case, that puts an end to my plans to go out with the camera. My original plan had been to go to the Oktoberfest beer festival in Warrington – but I’ve had a change of mind and decided I don’t feel like a night of excessive alcohol. Good as that may be, that basically means I’ve replaced doing something with doing nothing; which is never the best of results.

Watching the news I saw an advert which has got me angry. Toasta Bags. Really, what is the purpose? Why not just use a toasty maker? The bags selling point is that they can be used a few times before disposal. Wow. I’m pretty sure the toasty maker has had that pretty much sown up, with a considerably longer lifetime for recycling. And hey, who really wants a bag full of melted cheese, and a toasted sandwich with only the slightest hint of cheese ever having been near it?
It’s ridiculous, and for that reason, I’m out. </DuncanBanatyne>

I think I’ll watch The Prestige tonight. Bought it on Bluray a while ago – probably a good time to finally sit down to watch it.

In other news, just incase you hadn’t heard…
