Welcome to my blog
by Phil Long
Most visitors to Teletranone.co.uk are new, while existing readers will have noticed I am posting far more on my blog - so I thought I’d take some time to outline what this blog is about and why I post here.
Primarily Teletranone is my personal blog and it’s purpose is to get me back in to the habit of writing for enjoyment. A while ago I used to write a lot for enjoyment and with enthusiasm, but through the brief spell I spent in journalism I lost motivation for something that had been an important part of my life. This blog is encouraging me to write and helping me work back towards some sort of ‘voice’. I’m experimenting with styles and learning from other blogs in the completely stupidly titled ‘blogosphere’.
Teletranone doesn’t have a set subject, it’s not a niché blog, it’s pretty much a general blog talking about life and stuff. It serves as a journal as well as a bit of fun. It lets my friends and family what I’m up to and gives them the opportunity to respond and share their own takes on things.
I like to think new visitors will benefit from some of the ideas, tips and reviews I post on here. I’ve made some daft mistakes in terms of money and recovered from them - and that in itself gives a good source of ideas. Failing that I hope people will enjoy the photos I take as I learn more and more about photography and other things I spend my free time doing.
Blogs I Read
As I write more I’m also reading more blogs and I’m finding the places I’m visiting most are:
ProBlogger : Darren Rowse is a professional blogger who’s long since given up the day-job, earning money from blogging and from blog-company b5media
Digital Photography School: Another site of Darren Rowse, with guest and staff bloggers providing all sorts of tips on photography. There is a readers forum where regular challenges are set by readers and moderators - and it’s a great motivator for taking pictures of new things and learning new techniques.
The Simple Dollar: Trent Hamm and his wife got in to money problems through habitual sending and have since adopted a life of frugality. Generally good advice for saving money - though I do find sometimes it can come across as being a Scrooge rather than being sensible with money.
Standout Blogger: It can be a little skittish, and I get the impression the writer is quite young - but still some good ideas and tips for bloggers.
What have I got planned?
To encourage myself to write more and to embrace the blogging format more I’m looking to set a schedule for regular posts, in addition to more ad-hoc ‘journal’ posts. Feature posts like ‘Too much month’ I’m aiming to post at least once a week, fun posts on a Friday or fortnightly and posts about the site, other projects and blogging once a week too. Next week I’m looking to talk about the history of another project - talking about something that began (quite drunkenly, in Spain) with the title ‘Cyber Death-Boat Bar Come Aircraft Carrier Comic Shop’. Quite possibly my best idea since Star Trek themed condoms (Trekkies like to keep their collectables in their original packaging - so no danger of the value ever being lost).
