Le Mans (Part Four) – The Le Mans Classic 2008

by Phil Long

Fortunate timing for our trip to France meant that we were there at the time of the Le Mans Classic – which features cars from 1929 through to 1979 racing on the Le Mans circuit and takes place every two years. This was the final event of our trip, with the following day being a day for relaxing, packing and enjoying the sun.

On the lead-up to the track there were vast car parks for owners, divided in to different manufacturers. The largest by far was Lotus, closely followed by Porsche.

There were also some very nice looking Aston Martins:

We started early on the Sunday to get as much in to the day as possible, and arrived for the second set of races, which featured cars from the 30’s.

The last race saw cars that were easily recognisable as not being too dissimilar to the cars that race in the modern 24 hour:

We headed back around 4pm – just as the last race finished. When we got back to the boat we were absolutely knackered, a combination of a lot of walking and the early morning taking it’s toll.
