Site changes - any comments?
by Phil LongI’ve made the title more descriptive, including my name, and have also started using tags in posts which feed directly in to the Meta data. On the back-end - after composing posts in ecto - I’m using Zemanta to put context-based links in to posts (typically to Wikipedia) and if I don’t already have a picture, then it provides suggestions which are available freely/under Creative Commons. I’ve added ‘All in one SEO‘ to Wordpress and have also signed up to Google Analytics and Feedburner to track visitors - again using a Wordpress plug-in that talks to both. One thing I noticed quite quickly were people coming to the site having Googled for ‘Articulate drinking game’ - hence I figured I’d put a post up with the (rather simple) rules, given they were arriving but with nothing to look at. As I write, my site now appears as the first listing when that particular phrase is entered.
My actual purpose for the blog has changed a little too - while I’ll still be posting my usual “what’s happening” stuff I have, recently, started learning a bit about photography so I’m going to be posting my latest experiments on here; so that makes it almost a photo-blog. I may also use normal posts I’m making as an excuse to take a photo which ties in to the post. That way one fuels the other - blog post requires a photo, photo requires a blog post.
I’d welcome any comments/suggestions on the changes I’ve made - including anything else you think I could do to make my blog a bit more interesting and/or useful.
