Money saving and not so much…

by Phil Long

I have moved. Again. Back to Prestwich… again.

I am on as much of a money saving initiative as I am able to muster so, as mentioned last post, I’ve moved from my £635 a month apartment to sharing a semi with friends (Caz and Dave) at £166 per month (the semi costs £166 a month, not the friends). My intention is to save a deposit for buying a house; though first I will be buying a car (as public transport is not so good from Prestwich to Rochdale) and I NEED an iPhone. I’ll by handing the keys for my apartment back tomorrrow.

On the iMac subject; I took it to the Apple Store’s “Genius Bar”. They replaced the memory. I got it back after four days and then attempted to install Boot Camp; which destroyed the harddrive and removed the partition data from my external Firewire backup. Yay (/sarcasm). I took it back again and they replaced the harddrive. I’ve had it back for two weeks now, Boot Camp installed and no problems “so far”. I even had a little game of Counterstrike:Source through Parallels. It worked, but I wouldn’t recommend it. ;)

In other news, last night I want to La Tasca in the Trafford Centre for Finch n Nathan’s birthday. Unlike my own birthday at La Tasca in Deansgate there was actually more-than-sufficient food (though paying a service charge, which you know doesn’t got to the waitress, still smarts - bah humbug). They also weren’t trying to force us out after two hours.

However, the La Tasca bit was far from the highlight. ;) Prior to getting to the restaurant we popped into the Apple Store and I had a play with the new iPod touch Touch (the iPhone, without the Phone). Wow, is the brief summary. I only had time for a bit of playing with it (the iPod touch, you foul-minded scum) but it was great. Scrolling pages on Safari with a finger “just works” it feels right and flicking a page up at speed is great. I also discovered going ‘back’ was intuitive. Having not seen a button I should flicked my finger to the left and it then gave me thumbnails of pages I’d visited to go back to. I’m looking forward to being able to order the iPhone on November 9 more than ever now! :)

And finally… I’ve ordered Halo 3 from Amazon, so should have that this week. I’ve also pre-ordered Pro Evo 2008 which is out at the end of October. Pro Evo ‘08 restores a lot of the features that Pro Evo 6 on the X-Box 360 had axed - much to the irritating of, well, everybody. Stupid Konami. Still, at least they’ve learnt their lesson. I’m undecided as to whether to buy FIFA 08 too…
