Evil games and good plans…

by Phil Long

They’re in my lifes killing my times!

Last night all time was destroyed by the wet dream of procastination that is Guitar Hero 2! Unusually, I didn’t go to the pub after work and got a lift to Mankychester from Knowlesy as Jane was out with mates so he was stuck for something to kill time… and kill time we did, stone dead! Went to Nandos for food, then back to my apartment to play GH2, which we started at probably 6.30pm or there-abouts. Got to close to 11pm until we figured it was probably about time to call it a night.

I’m of the firm belief that about 2 hours of that time was me playing through ‘Jessica’ (made famous by ‘Top Gear’, despite the games protestations otherwise!)… once. It’s also become clear to me after concentrating on my telly for those hours that it’s specifically fretboard masturbation that’ll make you go blind.

We completed each of the stages on Medium, bought a guitar shaped like a fish and a new character - ‘Grim Ripper’ who, putting it mildly, “rocks” in all the clichéd mite that word is able to conjur. Hey, he plays a scythe! I also didn’t know ‘Free Bird’ before last night and I really wish I didn’t know it now - it hurts! Still - it was beaten and I didn’t fail at a single track. “Playing” War Pigs was über nostalgia-tastic!

I’ve also started playing WoW again. Few chaps at work are on as alliance on a PvE server which I have a character on and others are joining that server, so hopefully it’ll allow for some decent groups.

In other news…

I’m to move out of my apartment at the end of September and will be sharing with a chap from work and his girlfriend in Prestwich. I’m not saving quickly enough given the rent I’m paying - and I really want to get myself a deposit together so I can buy a house. I’ve mostly enjoyed living in the apartment, but there are things I don’t like about it - particularly the noise. With multiple neighbours and a fairly loud environment outside (last night people across the way were outside on their balcony until past 5am making noise) it doesn’t really suit me. I’ll no doubt need to buy a car again as the commute from Prestwich to Rochdale, via Manchester, doesn’t appeal.

And finally…

My iMac is still playing up, so I’m going to book some time in the Genius Bar when I’m back from France so I can get it sorted, once-and-for-all. Really need to get it sorted before the warranty is up as it’s been faulty since I got it. Guitar Hero 2 will NOT get in my way! Not being able to carry a computer to the Arndale without it being obvious what it is might… :(
