Social gubbins…

by Phil Long

Good night on Saturday - went to Dukes 92 and then, erm, some other place near there that I can’t remember the name of - and then on to Lime Bar. Got “nicely drunk” - which, to be honest, is the only choice given the prices over that side of town - £3.20 for a pint of Stella. Ouch.

I finally got around to updating my cashflow spreadsheet tonight and discovered I overspent on nights out, etc., by twice my monthly budget. I need to be a bit more sensible this month, as that kind of expenditure will harm my savings - and therefore my long term plans. Fruli at £4 a pint really doesn’t help, nor does a love of Nandos chicken!

I went to see ‘The Tempest’ at the Royal Exchange last night, with my mum n dad. I enjoyed it, which suprised me as I’ve not been to the theatre in years - and I’ve only ever watched TV and film versions of Shakespeare. It had Pete Postlethwaite as Prospero and his performance seemed good, though I don’t have any other versions of The Tempest to compare to. The Exchange itself is a good theatre. The audience sits around a central stage area - so it draws you into the performance more, as it feels as though the actors are performing to you more so than it feels in a ‘normal’ theatre. It was truly ‘royal’ as well, as Prince Edward was there to watch the performance.

Friday I will be turning 29, and my plan is to head to La Tasca in Deansgate for Tapas on the Saturday, before adventuring in the bars of the Northern Quarter. I’ll probably end up at tv21 or Trof, but it would be good to investigate some others… so long as they’re not ludicrously expensive.
